Get to know complex research facilities or the KIT art collection, perhaps even take a look into the past on a historical walk - there are many things to discover on a campus tour. With lectures and guided tours, scientists provide insights into the diverse topics at KIT.
North Campus - Large-scale Research Responsibilities
Discover KIT's North Campus on one of the themed campus tours. The programme includes an introduction to the main research areas of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, a tour of the grounds and a visit to several scientific and technical facilities from the various subject areas.

The North Campus of KIT can only be visited on the dates offered. Guided tours can be booked up to four weeks before the tour via the event calendar below.

Participants must not be younger than 16 years old.

Guided tours are only available in German or English.

Please note the specified number of people within the various tour packages. Larger groups must be requested separately.

Unless expressly agreed otherwise, the tours start at the Advanced Training Center for Technology and Environment (FTU), to the left in front of the main entrance. A campus guide will be waiting for the group there.

A bus equipped with a loudspeaker system is required for the tour of the campus. In exceptional cases, KIT can provide a company bus for groups that do not arrive with their own bus. The cost of the bus is EUR 100.

Anyone interested in plants can take part in themed guided tours in the Botanical Garden. Not only are various areas of botany explained, but current research topics are also presented.

The Energy Smart Home Lab consists of a 60 square meter apartment with two bedrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The Energy Management Panels (EMP) give the residents an overview of the current energy flows in the house and the current electricity consumption at all times.

The DFG-funded Karlsruhe Decision & Design Lab (KD²Lab) in the heart of Karlsruhe is one of the world's largest computer-aided experimental laboratories. It offers researchers an outstanding infrastructure for economic, neuro- and psycho-physiological experiments. This enables the investigation of human decision-making behavior under controlled laboratory conditions. The laboratory has two technically and spatially separate laboratory areas, 40 soundproofed and air-conditioned computer cabins, barrier-free experimental cabins and two large team rooms for conducting group experiments.

The 24-hour library on the South Campus can be used around the clock thanks to a system of book security in combination with the automated borrowing and return of books. The freely accessible stock of literature in the four specialist reading rooms is supplemented by a wide selection of electronic literature such as e-books, e-journals and databases. 1,600 individual and group workstations are available to visitors throughout the library system.

The 2,500 square meter experimental hall of the hydraulic engineering laboratory is equipped with several permanently installed research flumes. Additional models designed at the institute and built in its own workshop are set up and operated to investigate hydraulic engineering issues. A modern soil-physics laboratory is also available for cultural-technical work.

KIT art curator Andrea Stengel offers art tours of either the North Campus or the South Campus.
The art collection at the former research center has been in existence since the end of the 1960s. The collection is intended to promote interaction between science and art. When acquiring works, the focus is primarily on supporting young, regional and now very well-known artists.
The works of art of Campus South have been procured mainly under the program “Kunst am Bau” (Percentage for Arts) of the State of Baden-Württemberg. Since the mid-50s, artists have translated their ideas on arts and science into works of art that were built parallel to the construction of the campus buildings.
